    1. I, like so many others, was sucked into the phenomenon that was Image Comics in the early and mid 90s Now that I m a fully formed adult, I decided to go back and read one of these comics and see how it withstood the test of time.It didn t.The character motivations in this book aren t paper thin you ll have a hard time finding reasonable motivations at all Sarah Pezzini is a cop, yet she doesn t pursue a serial killer that is ravaging NYC, instead opting to ogle virtually every male character she [...]

    2. The porn star looks of the heroine indeed, of all the women here, even the young innocent one really grated on me Still, this had a compelling story and some beautiful images and ideas.

    3. Collecting the first eight issues of the Witchblade comic in a convenient format, this graphic novel is likely to please existing fans However, as a newcomer to Witchblade I found the artwork dated and uneven, characterization slight, and the plot clunky.Witchblade, or at least the beginning collected here, seems very much like a product of its time In the early 90s, Image Comics and its Top Cow imprint were finding their footing, darker heroes like Spawn were big, and artists like Rob Liefeld h [...]

    4. I wanted to like this, I thought the only thing standing in my way was an outfit clearly overly dedicated to fan service I was wrong Sara had the making of an interesting character, she is a homicide detective, she is spunky, she has slight anger issues, she is a take charge kind of a person If it were just that then I would have liked the character Instead, she is a complete asshole to the one guy who is nice to her, basically giving credence to the idea that pretty girls will walk all over you [...]

    5. I first heard about Witchblade when I was but a noob on the internet 12 13 as someone whose fanfics I liked also wrote some about Ian Nottingham I happened upon this while browsing in my local comic shop, and decided to give it a go Well, the artwork is very 90s impossibly musclebound men, gorgeous women whose bodies defy gravity and biology etc , but once I got over the stylised nature of it I didn t find it that distracting The vertical double page spreads were irritating though often beautif [...]

    6. It s unintentionally hilarious because the art, while fairly clean except for the inexplicable lines all over people s faces, blatantly distorts the female form far past believability while rendering the main character half or unclothed at every opportunity Her proportions are worse than Barbie s, and there is no variation at all in the vast array of women s bodies All have the bee stung full lips, impossibly tiny waists, and huge breasts and asses of masturbatory aides Their thighs in most case [...]

    7. lovingly and beautifully drawn by Michael Turner this story of how Sara Pezzini GOT the Witchblade and her first encounters with Ian Nottingham and Kenneth Irons is a great story s beginning.First there was the legal thing when Michael Turner left Image Top Cow and then started AspenMLT and now he s dead Don t look for a re collection of the earlier stories again READ Witchblade 1 4 30 2008Witchblade 2 5 1 2008Witchblade 3 5 2 2008Witchblade 4 5 3 2008Witchblade 5 5 4 2008Witchblade 6 5 5 2008Wi [...]

    8. The artwork is incredible Sara is a great character with ups and downs and weaknesses who seems authentic The only thing I didn t like was the old fashioned dress code of the 1960s but hopefully that ll get better as the issues progress.

    9. I watched Witchblade when I was a kido I knew her history before readint this and honeslty I really liked it Maybe that s why I was expecting from the actual comic In terms of plot it started fine, she was a femme fatale, strong and hard in the edges Talking about a 90 s heroine Pezz is amazing Even when th dialogues weren t that great, the whole plot was pretty good Evrerything was logical, good developed, some weird stuff here and there, but it was good Until, vol 7 Suddenly she wasn t Sara a [...]

    10. Sara, a detective built like a Barbie doll comes into contact with an alien technology called the Witchblade and spends the majority of the book following that event mostly naked The Witchblade provides armor in the classic female only the naughty bits are covered style Sara is very hard to like She is always angry.I read this on comixology unlimited and the only reasons I am going to continue with this series is that I am already paying for it and also I am morbidly curious to see how much of t [...]

    11. The original Witchblade comics reveal something worse than bad girl artat its storytelling inspiration is just bad storytelling, and likely pretty much bad TV storytelling.

    12. Since I don t normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here s the break down of how I rate my books1 star This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.2 stars This book was not very good, and I won t be reading any from the author.3 stars This book was ok, but I won t go out of my way to read , But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I d pick it up.4 stars I really enjoyed t [...]

    13. Initially I was turned off by this GN because of the over the top sexy look of the main character Starsky never had to do THIS to make a bust Sorry, I just can t sympathize with a main character who is clearly drawn the way she is to lure male readers And even the males in Witchblade are drawn to be annoyingly handsome But then one of my favorite GNs is Transmet which opens with a crazy looking troll of a hermit hillman.Beyond the looks of the characters, the actual style of the illustrations is [...]

    14. The story idea had huge potential, five star potential, pretty much none of it manifested in the story, only in the art I just put it down to me and the writers being in different genders ages realities or something like that I give it three stars for the potency of the idea and the artwork lovely pencils, lovely colouring I don t mind the porn star styling so much since at least there was a cute guy in it Nottingham but as he turned out to be a huge Bad Thing boo, hiss I can only assume he was [...]

    15. I m new to this series, and new to comics really, but I feel Witchblade is a good place for a Urban Fantasy fan to start There is a tough female heroine, good looking guys, and some sort of paranormal Sounds just like a typical urban fantasy novel, except there are bouncing boobs and women in tight clothes on every other page So I guess this is meant to appeal to guys, but the plot seems to indicate otherwise The main character thinks a lot, second guesses herself, and isn t really that strong M [...]

    16. I became interested in Michael Turner s art while reading Silvestri s The Darkness, found that Mr Turner had done my favorite representation of Teen Titan Starfire I also found that he had been in the bar where I work with a mutual friend I had not known.Since his untimely passing this year I ve decided to start gathering of his work, maybe because now there won t be any , Witchblade is the obvious 1st selection I ll get to Fathom Soulfire as my budget permits.I was rather displeased with the c [...]

    17. 3.5 Stars.Witchblade, yet another banned comic for me as I was growing up see Fathom Volume 1 review for that story turned out just ok for me The art, Michael Turner drawn, is amazing as always, but does follow the stereotypes towards women that he and other artists ex J Scott Campbell who I also love tend to base most of their catalog on However, unlike Fathom and Danger Girl, Witchblade doesn t feature a strong female role model at least not yet Sara Pezzini has all the makings of a strong her [...]

    18. this witchblade collection brings together the first eight issues of the popular comic by top cow it is a story about a powerful weapon that is essentially a bracelet but will transform itself into a gauntlet when the wearer is in battle sara pezzini nypd finds the witchblade and becomes its wearer whether she wanted it or not what follows is eight issues of intrigue as sara and her partners attempt to take down the criminal mastermind kenneth irons and his lackey, hitman ian nottingham this is [...]

    19. I ve seen Witchblade here and there, so I though I d just pick up an origins to see how it all started Wasn t particularly impressed with the plot, which felt a bit simple and somewhat drawn out The artwork and style was impressive, although that might depend on how you feel about double page spreads of ladies not very much, as well as unrealistic shredding of clothing items Lots of internal monologue showing up as captions, a bit than I d expected in a comic book, so it was kinda nice they hel [...]

    20. Having read later Witchblade arcs helmed by Ron Marz , I was quite interested to check out the beginning of the Witchblade story, but found this volume disappointing The characters are fairly half baked, the writing is mediocre, and it would benefit from a proofreader The cheesecake art, which in later books hardly extends beyond the covers, is on full display, with much ridiculous shredding of clothing I still would like to read of the back catalogue, but this volume has given me pause.

    21. Great art in most panels, some character portrayals were so far off as to grate on ones eyeballs Didn t like the ridiculous model poses either Hopefully that will level out.The writing was unreadably cheesy Loved Ian view spoiler If they don t bring him back soon I will pitch a fit like an errant child who lost it s favorite toy Amen hide spoiler br br br br

    22. Every time I opened an issue up, I closed it and went to read something else Every time I got thru an issue, I wondered what exactly happened in that issue It was just too wordy Once I prepared myself for the heavy internal monologue, noir type of read It was easier to follow the 8 issue story arc Which ran 6 issues too long Issues 7 and 8 were pretty good, And the art was amazing But it was still too long

    23. This volume compiles the first eight issues of the series I met Witchblade due to having read Tomb Raider Witchblade which I liked a lot, and it mades me want to learn about Sara Pezinni her story. In these days, we began to get used to heroines like Xena, Lara Croft, Sydney Bristow among others and now Miss Sara Pezinni, being she a detective and since we met her, her life was not easier.I liked the story, liked the drawings Mr Michael Turner was a great artist.

    24. An unexpectedly good read The writing plays out like a film noir, with heavy amounts of monologue The story is written almost as though the writers wanted it to be what the eventual movie would be There ll be a few elements that don t work for most, and the covers are fairly deceptive of the content Still a recommended read for any comic book graphic novel fans.

    25. The panel layouts the overall feel the artwork works well for this compilation All the captions were a bit distracting in the beginning, and it took a few pages to realize that they were used as internal dialogue instead of the typical thought bubbles It seemed a bit like reading a prose novel with pictures.Overall, though, I enjoyed the story.

    26. If you liked the tv show this collection is for you It reads like the first season If you haven t seen the show but have been curious what Witchblade is all about, this is a great jumping on point The art is very 90 s and the dialogue is very action B movie If that s your thing then this trade paperback graphic novel is for you.
