1 thought on “Kaya Shows the Way: A Sister Story

    1. This review is from the perspective of a mother Kaya s fifth book is all about sisters and loss In fact, by this book, I was really beginning to feel sorry for Kaya her entire 9th year has been about loss Kaya is maturing We get to see her care for other young members for the tribe with wisdom, and she comes up with a non selfish solution to a family problem. Most of this book is about realizing that people will come and go in her life she dwells on her sister Brown Deer s pending marriage and de [...]

    2. This is my favorite Kaya book The 5th ones of the AG series are always my favorites, because it seems they always have the most adventure.I loved what happened it this book I love how she finds Speaking Rain again and is reunited with her sister, a very happy ending.

    3. Kaya is reunited with her sister, Speaking Rain during the salmon season, when the tribes all converge at Celielo sp Falls Two Hawks, the boy who traveled with Kaya during her escape from the other Native American tribe has found her, staying with a lady named White Braids Speaking Rain has been helping White Braids with many daily chores after White Braids found her nearly dead from starvation and sick from exposure The tribe who took Kaya and Speaking Rain forgot about Speaking Rain and moved [...]

    4. The story covers two themes, one of them being the food gathering activities of the tribe, especially salmon fishing The second theme is about Kaya s blind sister who had been captured by another tribe.Speaking Rain, Kaya s sister, finally is reunited with Kaya but there s a problem, a promise made by Speaking Rain to the woman who found her and with whom she s lived since then It s a promise that could cause her to be separated once again from Kaya. There s no major earth moving events in the st [...]

    5. I really liked Kaya Shows The Way by Janet Shaw because it is adventurous It is about a Nimiipuu a Nez Perce Indian girl, named Kaya, whose sister and horse had been captured by an enemy tribe When Kaya is outside one day with her dog, Tatlo which means ground squirrel when she sees a woman sitting on a rock holding a baby She suddenly realizes that the woman is her sister, Speaking Rain Speaking Rain tells Kaya her story about how she got rescued and that she will not be living with Kaya s fami [...]

    6. Kaya and her family are at Celilo falls, trading with many different tribes While visiting the camp of a tribe across the river Kaya discovers Speaking Rain, her sister she was separated from when Kaya escaped the enemy with Two Hawks Kaya s heart is filled with joy to be reunited with her sister, but Speaking Rain has something to tell Kaya, the woman who saved Speaking Rain s life has grown very close to her and Speaking Rain feels she can t leave her Kaya is devastated, how could she be reuni [...]

    7. I remember that Speaking Rain view spoiler makes an honorable decision to help the woman who saved her life while still spending time with her adoptive family, and Kaya s disappointment at having to be separated from her sister for much of the year is understandable hide spoiler Again, that s all I ve got. These books really would be easier to review as one instead of six.

    8. I liked this book because Kaya s sister Speaking Rain was captured and her other sister, Brown Deer, was going to get married One day she went across the lake, and she found Speaking Rain In the evening, her whole family went across the river and brought her back She couldn t come back by herself because she was blind, and so they brought her by Felicity

    9. This is a coming of age story than anything Kaya has faced several losses but still shows her generous spirit and opens her heart readily to those around her I like her creative solution, but still felt this book moved rather slowly compared to the others, even though it was rich in historical detail.

    10. Kaya and her tribe go to Celilo Falls to harvest salmon She sees Two Hawks again and her lost blind adopted sister Speaking Rain Brown Deer proves to Cut Cheek s aunt that she s a hard worker and can therefore marry Cut Cheek Speaking Rain vows to stay with White Braids the Salish woman who saved her , but Kaya comes up with a solution where she can go back and forth between families.

    11. Kaya is one of my favorite American girls and this book is a really fun way to learn about history It teaches you about the past while keeping you enthralled in the character s story Highly recommended

    12. At what point does a character s flaw stop being a true to life grounding point for future growth and start being an annoying horror movie victim trait Can Kaya EVER stop thinking about animals before people Can she ever show appropriate responsibility for either EVER

    13. Listened to it as an audiobook Kaya is clearly growing and maturing She had some interesting new developments with her sisters.

    14. Kaya finds her long lost adopted sister but her blind sister refuses to come with her and says she made a vow to stay with the old woman who saved her life

    15. This is a great story Kaya learns a few things about herself and comes up with an interesting solution in the end I liked this one a lot.

    16. Slowest Kaya book so far Really, hardly anything happens in this book Isobel still liked it she is really into these books now.
