    1. I quite liked this book, mainly because of the way that it uses Akhenaten s revolution Instead of being yet another retelling of the Amarna and the post Amarna periods, perhaps with a focus on the doomed boy king Tutankhamun, this book uses the revolution and counter revolution as a background setting I also liked that it focused on how the civilians viewed the Amarna period, rather than being all about the royal family again. That said, I m not sure City of the Horizon really needed to use the A [...]

    2. If you read for setting and atmosphere, then CITY OF THE HORIZON is for you Of the characters, only Huy, ex scribe, is sympathetic Everybody else is out for the main chance now that the New Religion of Akhenaten has been overturned, and the Black Land has returned to the old ways.Gill telegraphs very little in this novel I did figure out who and the big why before the end, the complete picture of how it was done and who fit where in the puzzle I had to leave to Huy to explain to me.

    4. Interesting setting and characters but I did find the writing a bit uneven Overall a good mystery and I did like the main character, Huy the Scribe, so I will probably give the next one in the series a try.

    5. A very enjoyable read with a lot of nice background in ancient Egyptian culture Definitely worth reading.
