    1. This is a story about a dirt poor single mother raising two kids, a baby and an orphan niece on piecework sewing in 1950s Florida That orphan niece, the titular Jenny, has no shoes and little education but an indomitable spirit that serves her well in minding her cousins, putting up with hunger and making up the stories she tells them of Hildegarde, an unpredictable and impish fairy lady who lives in a house of ash cans It is also the story of Jenny venturing into a wealthier neighborhood in sea [...]

    2. 2.5 Not as magical as I remembered nor as classic as I thought, it was always a paperback we had around I liked the quaintness, but there was a random chapter in the middle that had nothing to do with anything else A disappointment, not one I ll likely read with the kids, though I don t think I can bear to get rid of it, either.

    3. I thought it was a good book It showed Jennys Love for her dog, despite her own fear of going to ask a very strange Docter she has never met before.
