I read this recently for my Duke Garden s Bookclub and really enjoyed it It s written by a Naturalist, so expect beautifully written descriptions of nature, wildlife, weather changes and It s like reading the Discovery Channel Especially interesting if you live near Chapel Hill as this farm biological preserve is located just down from the Friday Center and Finley Forest Golf Course, both of which are part of this 300 acre land now owned by UNC Fortunately, much of the property is still maintai [...]

I have read this wonderful book several times the first time when I still lived in North Carolina not far from Mason farm where Terres did his studies The version of the book which I own is the Knopf original hardcover published in 1970 and illustrated by Charles L Ripper Teresa was both a skilled naturalist and a talented writer If you love nature and enjoy reading, track down a copy of this book You won t be sorry.
