    1. first things first read the book, and then go watch the film And don t watch the crappy 1990s remake which completely changes the ending stick with gold and watch the 1955 movie Plot what little I m choosing to share etc can be found on today s post at my online reading journalfound here Read on for what I thought about the novel In this book, the focus is largely on the characters once the plot is set into motion, what comes next is mainly derived from the tormented brain of the main character [...]

    2. A study of evilFernand Ravinel is a travelling salesman, often away from the home he shares with his wife, Mireille This makes it easy for him to spend time with his lover, Lucienne But, in time, the pair decide this isn t enough that Mireille has to be got rid of And so they set out to murder her Their plot at first looks like it s going to be successful, but then a strange thing happens, and gradually everything starts to go wrong and as it does so, Fernand s mind begins to unravel. This book c [...]

    3. This is one of those crime thrillers were the less said about the plot the better If you discover this book by reading a media review, my recommendation is to put it on your tbr list and leave it there until you ve forgotten about it Or if you can, don t read the blurb at all Every Saturday evening, travelling salesman Ferdinand Ravinel returns to his wife, Mireille, who waits patiently for him at home But Ferdinand has another lover, Lucienne, an ambitious doctor That s all you need to know, pl [...]

    5. Fair warning up front If you haven t yet seen the wonderful movie made from this book, DIABOLIQUE, don t Although many plot elements were changed, the main one was left intact As opposed to many mystery thrillers that center on what was done and who was responsible, this one squarely revolves around how it was done If you see the movie first, you will be deprived of that intriguing element. The concentration on how mostly comes from having almost an entire gathering of unsympathetic characters I [...]

    7. Why, this is an very pleasant and cute French mystery thriller with a delight slice of horror In a word cute macabre tale Now, the question is if everything described was happened for real, or everything was just delusion and insane hallucinations of main male character The book starts very naive and abruptly, so the one might think that the plot will be very plane But not As in James The Turn of the Screw atmosphere is totally gloom and unpredictable, and until the very last chapter, I couldn t [...]

    8. I won this book in a giveaway so thank you for sending me a copy of this book This book is brilliant It kept me guessing right up until the end and I definitely didn t suspect that ending A story of murder, death, madness and guilt Interesting story, well rounded characters and plenty of plot twists An excellent thriller and I would highly recommend this Quite short at 190 pages but even so, the story itself is great Can t believe I ve not read this before 4 stars.

    12. This was a win.It did not take me long to read this book, but I still enjoyed the story even if it is short A brilliant story of a husband, wife and mistress and a spin that will leave you shocked at the end

    13. Excellent suspense novel a classicI do not know what to expectIt was excellent Tight writing fog mist dark night footsteps mysterious events panic dread anxiousness surprise nice existential Enjoy

    15. 16. Published in April 1954 in the US, Boileau and Narcejac s first novel as a writing team is an interesting amalgam of brooding noir, mystery, and horror A weak willed man is convinced by his aggressive lover to kill his wife, but once they do, the body disappears and he starts getting signs she may not be dead after all Taut, lean, and downbeat, the reader s never sure if his guilt is driving him mad, if the supernatural is involved, or something even sinister is happening The ending is particul [...]

    17. gets pretty interesting after the murder is accomplished and the body disappears, although well before the book s end I was able to roughly predict what had really happened still, an interesting read with good atmospherics.

    18. Turned into the film Diabolique by Henry Georges Clouzot, a fantastic film, I should add The story itself is really engaging and when women get angry, they really get angry Enough said Good writing and a brilliant way of setting up and delivering.
