    1. Initially when I read this book I was impressed with the language and tone really capturing the feel of the 1930s a time when women have started to have some freedom, responsibility and careers, but are still often reserved and held back by tradition I later found out that this book was actually originally published in 1934, and is now being republished for Kindle, which of course, doesn t just give it a tone of authenticity it is truly authentic, as this is the time period the author personally [...]

    2. I jumped at the chance to read this book when I was offered it for review, I ll be honest that as soon as I saw the gorgeous cover I felt sure I would enjoy this novel, and I was absolutely right Wonder Cruise was written and set in the early 1930s and is a wonderful insight into the way life was for unmarried women in that era Ann Clements is a 35 year old spinster who has a dull job as a typist, and is very much influenced by her brother, Cuthbert, who is a vicar He keeps Ann on a tight rein a [...]

    3. Review first posted on my blog A Spoonful of Happy Endings spoonfulofhappyendingsspoAnn Clements is a thirty five year old spinster at least, Ann doesn t think there s anything exciting in life waiting for her, let alone a man to sweep her off her feet at her old age Her job as a secretary isn t all that, her flat in Kensington is alright, and her weekly lunches with her clergyman brother Cuthbert and his family definitely aren t the highlight of her life So, when Ann unexpectedly wins 300 pound [...]

    4. 3.5Ursula Bloom 1892 1984 was one of the most popular bestseller authors of the 20th century, and one of the most prolific too over 560 books under several pen names Writing it seems was an integral part of her life website link , being an author as well as a journalist, and even the chief crime reporter for newspapers of the time I of course never heard of her but through my research I found a mention that one of her books, a 1930s romance, had just been re published as an ebook Wonder Cruise s [...]

    5. This is the second book that I ve read by Ursula Bloom and I ll be looking out for This is a typical wish fulfilment book, Ann s life has always been boring, she s a dowdy spinster but her life changes completely when she wins a sweepstake Amusing and perfect if you enjoy 1930s fiction It s a pity that the cover of the reprint doesn t reflect the vintage contents.

    6. Although this was very well written, I just couldn t get into it too deeply I m not a huge fan of books trying to teach lessons, and I felt that was the case here a little Maybe because it was set in an earlier era I m not sure I like romance personally so that was a little disappointing I did enjoy the characters interactions but nothing that will stand out down the road Maybe womens fiction isnt for me persay Or maybe im just ok with that if it plays a secondary role with romance at the fore [...]
