    1. I don t really remember the plot but Lange does angst and misunderstanding better than most Edited to add it s all coming back to me now Lange s a beautiful writer, her heroines especially are strong yet vulnerable not really an impossible combo but the fatal flaw that runs through her books is that her heroes are mostly unrepentant jerks Attractive, strong, Corinthians all but they trade on their looks and sexual charm, they re almost always jealous and unlike Balogh s heroes, who change becaus [...]

    2. I liked this one, especially our heroine Catherine She runs away from home when her Uncle wants to marry her off to an odious man to restore the money her own father had squandered away The only employment she could find is as an actress, Nancy Wright Knowing the reputation of actresses she goes to great lengths to protect her virtue while trying to earn an honest living Then one day the handsome and charming Duke of Claredon approaches her He asks he to pose as his fianc e to help flush out a p [...]

    3. Emma Lange is a hit and miss author me, some titles I really enjoyed and others less so The False Fianc e falls somewhere in the middle, it was a nice story to spend an afternoon with but it ends up being too predictable to reach keeper status. The Duke of Clarendon needs someone to pose as his fianc e, he finds the perfect candidate in Catherine who he believes to be a low born actress with low morals Catherine is in fact a young gentlewoman she has run away from home when her guardian decided t [...]

    4. the interactions between the main characters were a pleasure to read love the verbal barbs between the two and the mounting chemistry between Calrendon and Catherine was great though slightly marred by Calrendon s violence Catherine is hilarious enjoyed how she broke her new job to her old friend interesting propositiond it is so lucrative, I simply cannot afford to decline Though the mystery villain and his ending were a little rushed.

    5. Janet s review corresponds exactly to my feelings about this book I can t believe in an HEA for this couple because of the hero s bad temper, arrogance and prejudgement of the heroine s character there needs to be a lot groveling and change on his part at the end of the book as recompense for the unjustified insults he throws at her, his dreadful behaviour with his old mistress, which would be humiliating for the heroine even if she wasn t in love with him, and the physical hurt she sustains du [...]

    6. 3 I remember thinking this one was so romantic and would make a great movie back when I first read it in high school It was one of my first traditional Regencies view spoiler Be forewarned, though, that it s got a mistress element in it since the duke doesn t think Catherine is up to snuff for marriage for 98% of the book hide spoiler
