    1. When you find a tree, look all around it and see who you can find Remember to look up as well as down Look up there s a bird carrying a worm in her beak Where is she taking that worm Look down seedlings are leafing out around the base of the tree Hold each page up to the light to see the nest behind the leaves, the roots of the seedlings Sunlit, earthy illustrations on the right hand pages are backed with high contrast black and white pictures on the reverse, making for an ingenious low tech x [...]

    2. In this book, the narrator suggest that a flashlight should be shown through the back of each page to reveal hidden animals It is an exciting way to get the reader engaged with the book This book teaches children about how animals interact with the environment It is appropriate for ages 4 7 however, due to several factual inaccuracies, it should not be used in an educational setting to teach biology It is a shame that it is not scientifically accurate, as I initial found the light trick to be re [...]

    3. This shine a light book was really cool, but it took both Daniel and I to be able to handle it, the flashlight, and the toddler This was a library copy, and clearly other people had found it hard to manage without enough hands almost every page was ripped just about in half Since the lights were dimmed, I thought this would be a perfect bedtime story, but I also underestimated how difficult it would be to convince Little Pickle to then give up the flashlight I really love this shine a light conc [...]

    4. We are a big fan of the shine a light series by Usborne Kane Miller The books are large but not too large for a lap, textured paper that feels good in between your fingers and a fine binding Secrets of the Apple Tree does not disappoint Journey close to an Apple tree, discovering the animals and plants that live near and in the tree Included is an introduction to seeds, roots and the growth of Apple trees While you don t need a flashlight to enjoy this book, it does add a little fun to reading t [...]

    5. A fun book from the Shine a light series Miss 2 and I read it together using the lamp She loves seeing the hidden pictures come up and then flicking over to see the Black White versions Nice that it s gently educational too.

    6. Fun concept but a little hard to do with one hand to hold the book and the other to flash the light

    7. might be useful for a STEM storytime for young readers or pre readers However, it would be hard to show a large group the diagrams that appear when light is added behind the page

    8. I love this series well written and informational, very eye catching illustrations and very interactive A creative marvel in nonfiction.

    9. Explore what is going on in under and around an apple tree When you hold pages on the right side up so a light shines through them, you get to see of what is going on thanks to the black and white illustrations cleverly matched on the reverse side.A great book for curious youngsters This book helps them explore the natural world around them and what may be going on in secret The text is fairly simple, but still has enough content to teach some basic science facts I ve never seen one of these Sh [...]

    10. For children, love this little book When I travel, I try to find things for my great nieces and nephews that we don t have here, or that I haven t seen here On one side of the page is a colored drawing if you hold that page up to the light or put a flashlight behind it, it will show you which animal or thing lives grows in that part of the tree And there s a question for them to help them narrow down their guesses Once you turn the page, the left side has a black and white drawing of that creatu [...]

    11. This book is great for children who have a hard time keeping their attention on books, younger children, or to introduce the life of plants With every page there is an interactive page that you shine a flashlight through to show a hidden secret of the apple tree This book talks about many different aspects of an apple tree.

    12. this is a gem of a book tells kids all about the life going on inside and outside of a tree the coolest thing though, is that on the right hand page you can hold a flashlight on the opposite side and you can see what is hiding on the other side it also works if you hold it up to the light definitely recommend for one on one reading and for kids who love learning about nature.

    13. Another big hit with the 3 year old The book has hidden pictures that appear when you shine a flashlight behind the pages So you can see animals, bugs and other surprising things that live and grow in, around, and under the apple tree We have an apple tree in the backyard and are planning to go investigate it closely when he wakes up from nap.

    14. This is the cutest idea for a book that I ve seen in a long time Making the book interactive either by holding it up to a light or holding a flashlight to the back of the page is so neat I will be buying this one for my sister and for myself.

    15. This is an incredibly engaging book for children about the hidden world of the apple tree There is a lot of information about animals and plants that is fun to learn, and the presentation of the book is excellent So much to see and do throughout the reading of this book Great for all ages.

    16. The story is just averageever THE Shine a Light book IS OUTSTANDING I found myself holding things up to the light than reading the story A ton of fun I need to find a flashlight for the library

    17. What a fun book to read with my grand babies Perfect bedtime story with a flashlight to show hidden things Colorful illustrations with interesting words.

    18. The kids love the shine a light series They love using the flash light and guessing what is next They always want me to read them again

    19. The critters that live under, in and around an apple tree are revealed in this cheerfully illustrated interactive book Beware of a few muddled facts.

    20. I was interested to try out one of the Shine a Light books Fun but nothing super exciting I think the concept sounded cooler than it actually was.
