    1. This gem of a book is an incisive, almost anthropological portrayal of life on a elite American university campus Most of what the students at these universities take for granted the cosmopolitanism of the student body, the gleaming buildings endowed with enormous donations from alumni, the natural encounters with award winning researchers, the bottomless coffers for student travel abroad and on campus activities, etc is subtly hinted at throughout the text The author s greatest achievement has [...]

    2. I read this book on the recommendation of an American friend The subject is of interest to me as I have many students who dream of attending college in the United States This novel opened my eyes on what it means concretely to have the chance to spend four years in a place so privileged, where students do not even realize the extraordinary opportunities that are offered to them daily The university of Northport described by the author has little in common with the image we usually get of America [...]

    3. This was an amazing book book information The clever song titles for chapters is amusing, and the book explains so much about the college admission process in big US universities It takes you inside Jason s the main character mind and really helps the reader understand what people with Asperger s syndrome go through I recommend it to everyone, especially if you like travelling

    4. Though it is billed as a campus novel, Slightly out of Tune is as much a travel novel Each one of the four parts takes place on a different continent The four settings for the book Northport, Sydney, Easter Island, and Singapore are vividly described and the reader feels really transported there The author successfully gives us a real feel for each place and enables us to visit them vicariously A great find

    5. When I heard from a friend in Manhattan that he had a read a book set right outside my hometown, I had to check it out The author has taken an obscure small town in Long Island, NY and turned it into an Ivy League college town It was very heart warming to see mentions of Northport, Fort Salonga, Asharoken, and other places where I spent my childhood Now that I read this book, I can completely believe this Ivy League, from the layout of the campus I can see Gothic towers and students on bicycles [...]

    6. Slightly out of Tune is a thrilling adventure and makes a great point that we should respect diversity on college campuses, respecting not just cultural diversity but different people s quirks and personalities The main character, Jason Curran, is weird by most of his college classmates standards which leads to a chain of events where he s kicked out of school We realize through others perception of Jason that even though we define things categorically, our world is not black and white. The only [...]

    7. This book is an amazing look at Ivy League universities from the inside In my years of consulting students applying to Ivy Leagues and their families, I haven t seen a accurate and vivid portrayal of student life And seeing as the author is a student at Princeton, I m not surprised he was able to put in so many day ti day details that even I don t know While the book touches only very briefly on the college admissions process, instead focusing extensively on student life, it is reminiscent of [...]

    8. This book is a very enjoyable read that shows us life not just on an Ivy League college campus but also on my favorite place in the world, Easter Island The main character arrives on the remote Pacific island at some point in the story, and I don t want to include any spoilers, but his adventures there really contribute to his development The description of the place is extremely accurate the author must have been there himself to write such a precise description It will interest anyone who want [...]

    9. I had opportunity to meet author when he came to my high school in Shanghai to talk about his book and student life in American Ivy League university Going to Ivy League like Harvard or Yale is my dream and this book teached me a lot I bought book and started reading immediately The story is very nice and teaches much because in China, we only learn little bits about life in Ivy League We think everything is about academic, but there is much , clubs to join and social lives and partys.Even someo [...]

    10. Though the main character is not a nice guy by any means, and though I related much to the college experience of someone like Cayley, I truly enjoyed experiencing the social curriculum of college through the eyes of Jason, who is struggling to figure out how social norms and relations work A different and very worthwhile read.

    11. I read this book on the recommendation of a friend There are so many different reasons why I so enjoyed what still seems to be like an undiscovered gem My favorite part was the depiction of Jason as a stranger in a strange land a plight faced by many immigrants all around the world, but compounded here by the fact that Jason does not comprehend fully the world around him, even when it is his own adopted world I also wanted to rush to purchase a plane ticket to visit Easter Island And I loved the [...]
