    1. If you d like to believe in guardian angels swooping down to protect you when life takes a nasty turn, this is a heartwarming read about characters who aren t immediately appealing In fact, I nearly put down this book after reading the opening erotic paragraphs, though the story wasn t about that at all. This story throws Anna, a hard to like cantankerous widower who s just learned she has breast cancer, together with Lizzie, a new, impossibly young, self absorbed American lodger, an art student [...]

    2. Jackie Ley is obviously a gifted writer The descriptions of locations and certain art works are very well done The story is also well thought out and very involved Using the Jardin as the center point of the novel was an interesting approach as well I did think at some point that there was just too much tragedy in the novel and was it all really necessary The saving grace of the novel is the story of the monk and his interweaving with the modern day I loved this part of the story and would gladl [...]

    3. I enjoyed The Angels of the Jardin Massey very much This is a character driven novel, but like in real life, you don t learn everything about the characters at the beginning The author reveals the full scope of their personalities and backgrounds gradually throughout the book By the end, I really felt like I knew Anna and Lizzie and understood their motivations For the most part, Anna views life in the rear view mirror and Lizzie through the front windshield Age and youth in contrast, sometimes [...]

    4. The writer made the garden come to life with her words I could smell, visualise and feel myself transported there A light tale of two women each battling their own demons but told from the perspective of day to day life, loss, humour and pathos A lone woman sharing a flat in France with a young uni student and an elderly neighbour who embodies all the beauty of times gone by as well as the prejudices and intolerance and class divide The role of compassion and empathy and finding commonalities to [...]

    5. I have visited France several times, and it was delightful to go there once again in The Angels of Jardin Massey The characters of Anna, the American woman diagnosed with breast cancer, and the british art student Lizzie as well as others are well drawn, and we learn a great deal about them through finely crafted dialogue The writer has a flair for descriptive language and the realm of the Jardin Massey became real in this reader s mind The mysterious monk of the Jardin, Guillaume bridges the ga [...]

    6. A recently widowed American discovers that she has breast cancer on the day that her new lodger, a English art student, is due to arrive to share her apartment in provincial France The eccentric behaviour of her upstairs neighbour and the unreliable plumbing in the apartment are additional burdens for harassed Anna, along with her long time estrangement from her daughter The trials and adventures of Lizzie, the lodger a naive, accident prone though good hearted young woman naturally, also, extre [...]

    7. The Angels of the Jardin MasseyThe novel was inspired by 13 years living in southwest France and by a real public garden called the Jardin Massey which has a reconstructed medieval cloister at its heart This intriguing past present link fired my imagination and the result is a time slip novel with a magic realism twist that explores the unlikely friendship between two very modern women, 50 something American Anna and scatty 20 year old drop dead gorgeous British art student Lizzie. The Jardin Mas [...]
