1 thought on “The Soldiers of Fear

    1. The Furies invasion continues This is the second book in a series of four of the Star Trek event Invasion BE AFRAID, VERY AFRAIDLike 70 years ago, the fearsome Furies were stopped by the boldly efforts of Captain Kirk, Mister Spock and the USS Enterprise with crutial help of a third party in the conflict. The Federation thought that that would be the last time to hear about the Furiesbut they were wrong The Furies have returned and powerful than before Bigger ships, better weapons, and the worst [...]

    2. While this is the second book in the Invasion sub series, it can be read as a standalone novel The story a long feared enemy returns bent on conquering Federation and Klingon space Picard and the Enterprise crew must find a way to deal with this enemy who has a new twist on an old weapon The book doesn t spend as much time on the invaders point of view as the first book in the series which makes sense, but I had liked the original villains and had hoped to see of their society The authors used [...]

    3. what was there to question He and his best friend were going to die in the next few minutes it was that simple Because of the speed at which I read, these books are kind of like a feature length episode for me This one was certainly very enjoyable, and although the Redbay ending was predictable and Data s immunity to the genetic queues underexplored, fitting into the work thus far was smooth and neatly managed Guinan s input was very televisual, too.The length of the DS9 extract, the next novel, [...]

    4. My least favourite of the four Invasion books I found it contained less depth than the other three, and too concerned with moving the plot along The others have a very apocalyptic feel to them, but The Soldiers of Fear is simply competent action adventure, in my eyes Not bad at all, but unambitious, compared to its stablemates.

    5. I enjoyed this one had a lot going personally so had to read it casually it tried to involve all the main characters equally the ending was super predictable too much foreshadowing of the importance of an introduced red shirt.

    6. In this book I found myself struggling to focus It was boring and my main goal for reading it was so that I could move on to the next book in the series Overall Its terrible. The author also seems to not understand that we use phasers NOT lasers when fighting the enemy And lasers in the Trek universe are only used for things like surgery A phaser is a much powerful weapon than a laser. If anything this book gives me inspiration, for indeed if this book can be published as awful as it is Then my w [...]

    7. This is book 2 of the four part Star Trek series Invasion that crosses through the settings of the first four Star Trek TV series.Star Trek 79 First StrikeStar Trek The Next Generation 41 The Soldiers of FearStar Trek Deep Space Nine 16 Time s EnemyStar Trek Voyager 9 The Final Fury It is a formulaic ST TNG adventure that describes an impending invasion of our quadrant of the galaxy through a manufactured wormhole I knew there was going to be a problem when the station that has been monitoring t [...]

    8. Where First Strike shined, this book failed Unfortunately it reads like a TNG movie than a TNG episode The book is dramatically better in the 2nd half where we re faced with engineering dilemmas, battle sequences, and the possibilities of war in space But most of the book feels forced by the situations of the series We have the same aliens, with new weapons, but no changes in motive The plot was static and forced it was written with the ends in mind and to be honest I m not sure why anything ha [...]

    9. Part 2 of the Invasion series A hole has opened in the Universe and the Furies have returned The same group that James T Kirk and the Enterprise crew defeated 80 years ago must now be tackled by Jean Luc picard and they are stronger than ever The ancient furies have returned to avenge their defeat from 80 years ago and reclaim their homeland There space ship is stronger than ever and the fear they create is devastating than the last time the fear the furies transmit can literally scare a person [...]

    10. In a word, the second novel in the Invasion series is serviceable The Next Generation story focusing on the return of the Furies moves the story along without adding anything to the overall arc The action takes place almost entirely on board the Enterprise D the supporting cast is thin and the depth given to the regular characters is almost nonexistent The Furies this time around don t get any personality or characterization they are simply an alien race with a weapon the crew has to find a tech [...]

    12. I liked this better than Invasion 1 First Strike As I mentioned, I am not a big fan of TOS Everything seems to focus on Kirk This book focused on several of the main characters, which I liked. There are 2 downsides First, the character Redbay, introduced as Riker s friend Well, you know something was going to happen to him Won t say what, though.Second, it seemed to just end Just like that, it was over I know the series is continued with the DS9 group, so I wonder if Enterprise will show up there [...]

    14. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first novel of the invasion series, but this was just completely epic The enemy returns and with a hellfire in their belly and the hardware to express it all over the federation Just wonderful, I imagine if it had been made into an episode in the series and drool Must read for any trekkie.

    15. Liked it somewhat.Liked it somewhat.Like the first in the series, same premise The setting in this story is different It has some unique features and the characters are as you expect If you liked First Strike you will like this one If you like these Star Trek characters you will like how they interact and feel.

    16. Good story The characters are well developed and the story is good, some of the things done by the characters ,like, repairing the ship and the shields in so short a time are ridiculous ,thought the first story was better

    17. I didn t hate this series, but it wasn t one of my favorites, either I think they tried to answer too many questions of history at once, some of which already had answers in the ST universe They just didn t achieve what was needed for the lofty scope they were trying to capture.

    18. Prosegue la prima trama comune alle 4 serie di Star Trek Rispetto al romanzo insignificante dedicato alla serie classica, qui la situazione migliore la trama pi consistente e i personaggi ben delineati.

    19. This book seemed to run out of steam as it progressed and the writing was uneven, but it was still an enjoyable read.

    20. The TNG installment of the 4 book Invasion series, better than the TOS part IMO Despite the predictable ending a very entertaining read.
