1 thought on “I and You

    1. Wow, okay, I get it This is a great play The dialogue reminded me of the best of the Gil Girls and the scenario feels a tad contrived and yet true to life or at least to teenage life where you can form a best friendship or fall in love in a day, where sharing a joke, or reacting just right to the moment at hand feels uber significant and you are both supremely curious about the whole word and supremely self involved The question that excites me as a director is how to build to the end so that is [...]

    2. Lauren Gunderson is great Her play, The Taming was one of the best plays I saw in 2013 I missed this play in Marin so it was lovely to get to read it in the July August 2014 issue of American Theatre The pacing is quick and engaging I flew through it And I like the playful spacing of words that Gunderson uses to help communicate the pacing and emphasis.I also really enjoyed the construction of the piece, layers of meaning and relationship that were both accessible and fun to discover.

    3. holy shit i had this play summarized for me, and i m glad i immediately forgot the summary because boy is this a play with a powerful ending it was run of the mill cute and turned into something so soul shaking it literally left me gaspingreally enjoyed my first Gunderson play look forward to reading

    4. While this is not the best play I have ever read, the plot twist at the end was brilliantly executed I honestly had no idea it was coming and that to me is a successful twist The characters were not terribly deep, but the dialogue was engaging and realistic.

    5. I have to admitt Lauren Gunderson s play took me a little while to get through As an acting coach who works with young people I wasn t so sure at first about the dialogue I don t knowybe it felt stilted to me But I should have just relaxed because Ms Gunderson is brilliant And she was just leading me down the path until bam she hooked me It has been a long time since I have read a play and actually gasped Every high school actor needs to read this beautiful play

    6. At the start, this play seems to be yet another entry in the dying teen genre However, both of the bright characters in this two hander ultimately reveal a greater purpose Much of the play involves the study of Walt Whitman, with great emphasis on these lines from Leaves of Grass If you don t find me in one place search another I stop somewhere, waiting for you.

    7. This is an AMAZING play IUP is putting it on in Fall 2015, so I thought I would read it before I audition and I fell in love with Caroline instantly It is written so well and I love the theme and the ending was a shock, but so creative Love, love, love

    8. An amazing new modern play I never saw the emotions that poured out of me coming This is a MUST read for any actor director theatre person

    9. This okay is one of my top want to direct wish list Plays Gunderson s humor is quirky and the story compelling, theatrical, and left me thinking about it in a way a play hasn t done in a long time

    10. 3.5 Stars The ending made up for the parts that dragged It was super compelling and I very much enjoyed it.
