    1. What a wonderfully written novel The author does a great job painting such a vivid story, and developing characters that we truly love As a former dancer, her descriptions of Sowmya s experiences really resonated with me and I could see all her movements in my mind s eye.Great story, richly told, and vividly described.

    2. Gorgeous book Set just at the beginning of the independence movement in India, the growth of the film industry and all with the force of a feminist voice.

    3. I got this book from a friend It was such an easy book to read, I didn t want to put it down The author made you feel as if you are a part of the wonderfully told story Her descriptions of Sowmay s feelings, surroundings and experiences were so vivid It is a richly told story She describes everything so well you can almost see it You feel for this young widow who is compelled to take her life into her own hands in order to live a fully.I loved it.

    4. As a dancer raised by a dancer, and nurtured by a teacher whose dedication mirrors that of the devadasi s spirit captured beautifully in this book I found the narrative compelling and able to relate I also found situating the timeless dancer s journey within a space of social and political revolution an interesting lens that elucidates the struggles experienced by many women who strove to maintain independence in this cultural context A refreshingly poignant summer read
