    1. MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOKA Pioneer Christmas Collection was such a good read Each story is short enough that it can be read in an hour or so, but they are short but Awesome I especially enjoyed these because the setting of each is during the pioneer days and I love that era in history Listed below are the nine stories, the author who wrote each one, and the historical time and place of the setting If you only purchase one fiction to read during the Christmas Season, this is the one you need to ch [...]

    2. What a great find and perfect book for the winter time The stories were short, sweet and very engaging The way the authors wrote the stories, I felt like I was there Not all of the stories I loved but I did have a favorite one The story called The Calling by Kathleen Fuller is a bittersweet story of a tavern girl named Milly Kent and her family Her father Cornelius Kent is the owner of a tavern and does not want his daughter to be just a tavern girl He wants for her and so does her annoying at [...]

    3. I m not religious, but got this from the library in my quest to read the novella in it that was nominated for the Rita I do love novellas The nominated one, Defending Truth, by Shannon McNear, is set in revolutionary America The hero is a Tory loyalist who was captured in battle, then escaped from the rebels The heroine is a teen girl who is keeping the farm going and her younger siblings fed while her dad s off fighting against the Tories It s a nice story, realistic about how hard life was and [...]

    4. While looking for some cozy Christmas stories I did not find it here The stories were mostly all very similar and predictable They mostly all start with the father or husband late coming home because of sickness or not coming home at all due to death The stories for the most part do not have a Christmasy feel and only have a mention of Christmas dinner The stories are too short to really develop a good plot and a romance does not move to marriage this quickly in real life There are a few other C [...]

    5. I love Christmas and Christmas stories Throw in a whole bunch of top notch historical authors and you ve got a treat This compilation of original and inspiring historical romance novella s will entertain you with their intriguing tales of pioneer life Each story concludes with the new pioneers celebrating Christmas in unconventional dwellings DEFENDING TRUTH by Shannon McNear, sees Truth, a young woman in western North Carolina, alone and responsible for her younger siblings after her father had [...]

    7. 1st story Defending Truth.3.5 Stars I liked this one, mostly because it was set during the Revolutionary War I liked the characters of Truth and Micah, they were well developed and pretty realistic I liked the romance, it wasn t overly lovey dovey gross The betrayal theme, which I usually find clich and overdone, was actually done quite good.2nd story The Calling.2 Stars Overall, this one just didn t really grab my interest The characters were pretty good, especially Aunt Louise and Mr O Reardon [...]

    8. Nine tales of women and winter in pioneering times, bearing such beautiful titles as Buckskin Bride and A Pony Express Christmas I loved every story Defending Truth by Shannon McNear shows young Truth Bledsoe out hunting to support her family while her father is away In the North Carolina woods, she surprises a soldier who says the battle is over But he s a Crown soldier, a Tory He has fled the field, and Truth grudgingly shares food as a Christian should, but she can t bring herself either to t [...]

    9. I really enjoyed this book of 9 different stories centered around the Christmas season Nine different ladies, in different areas of the US, in different situations of pioneer life, and in different time frames ranging from 1781 to 1897 It gives the reader a taste of each author s style Each lady struggled with different trials on the pioneering lifestyle and each lady unexpectedly found a pioneer man to love them I m interested in history of the settlers and have been to some of these areas myse [...]

    10. A Pioneer Christmas Collection features nine stories of finding shelter and love in a wintry frontier This collection of short stories is the perfect book to read near Christmas and really any other time of the year Ranging from North Carolina to Alaska, and set from 1780 to 1897, elements of faith, endurance, and love are explored in simple and inspiring ways It s a book guaranteed to give you that warm, cozy feeling My favorite stories in A Pioneer Christmas Collection were Kathleen Fuller s T [...]

    11. Sweet collection of stories, reminiscent of the local color movement in American literature The characters in their frontier settings and the struggles they face keep you reading, but you can be sure that the outcome will be predictable if you trust in God, you will find the love of your life in the midst of the most horrible circumstances, just in time for Christmas, and you will live happily ever after Come to think of it, maybe this could be accurately described as a collection of Christian [...]

    12. Loved all the stories Each story shined in its own way I especially liked how Noela Nancarrow grew spiritually in A Badlands Christmas Marcia Gruver In Buckskin Bride Vickie McDonough , Mattie matures and learns to trust the Lord The setting is Guthrie area where now live, so that was special to me I was also interested in the setting of The Gold Rush Christmas Michelle Ule because the story is set in Skagway Not long ago I visited Alaska and I can better imagine the specific challenges for Sama [...]

    13. More like 3.5 starsjust because the stories were all very short as they had to be so most were not very well developed at all But I enjoyed it just the same

    14. 9 stories of love, hope and Christmas The stories were great, the length of each was just right My ratings for each story are below This is a great book to enjoy Defending Truth by Shannon McNear In the wake of the battle of King s Mountain in 1780 s, Truth is caring for herself and her siblings, waiting to hear back from her father who s been missing for far too long She happens upon Micah, an ex Tory hiding in the woods But can she overcome her prejudice and hatred to help a man in need A stor [...]

    16. I really liked this particular collection of Christian Christmas Romances Some of these are stellar stories, and some are just good All in all a well researched bunch of fun reads.

    17. Defending TruthTruth can t believe it when she encounters a Tory on her mountain Her father is still off defending the area from those silly Torris and this man, Will, is here starving Well, God put him in her path for a reason Hopefully, he ll leave before her father returns or he eats her out of house and home Review So cute I enjoyed this novella but it was so full that it didn t feel like a novella at all Author Shannon McNearGrade AAges 16 Setting 1781 North CarolinaThe CallingShould Ethan [...]

    18. 19. Readers are in for a treat with this collection of stories written by various authors about pioneers celebrating Christmas Being a fan of the pioneer era and someone that loves the Christmas season I enjoyed all 9 novellas My top 3 favorites were not in any particular order Shannon McNear s DEFENDING TRUTH is about a young woman whose father has left to fight in a war and she was left to care for her younger siblings She s near the end of her rope and most definitely not in the Christmas spirit [...]

    20. A delightful read from cover to cover, I had a hard time putting this book down, evidenced by the fact that I finished it in less than a day Though The Cowboy s Angel and A Silent Night were definitely my two least favorites, I found myself greatly enjoying A Badlands Christmas not only was it an engaging story, but most importantly, it featured an Australian heroine Margaret Brownley then pulled out another winner with a stubborn mule called Josie, an unusual and brilliant meet cute, and the in [...]

    21. Nine short, wonderful, Christmas stories written by nine authors Lauraine Snelling, Margaret Brownley, Kathleen Fuller, Marcia Gruver, Cynthia Hickey, Vickie McDonough, Shannon McNear, Michelle Ule and Anna Urquhart.I really enjoyed this book, these stories, and they are all quick reads Of course there were some that touched my heart than others as I m sure any reader would feel that way, having different stories touch their heart They take place in a variety of locations and even though they a [...]

    22. This was a wonderful part of a Christmas package from a CA bud who remembered that I love reading Christmas novels, no matter what time of the year Since this one had short stories by many of the Christian authors that I follow, it was a real pleasure I learned a great deal about some of the hardships that people incurred while settling in unknown territories All the stories had couples who faced harsh winters, lost of family members, and still connected to begin relationships A great read on a [...]

    23. Haha I decided to read this book of nine short stories to get in the Christmas spirit I didn t know it was a romance The stories are simple and the elements of history kept me interested without requiring a lot of thought This is the first book I ve read with a focus on romance so I m not an expert in this area, but my one word description would be sappy However, in the end, my mission has been accomplished and I m in the Christmas spirit Perhaps it s this spirit that compelled me to award four [...]

    24. This book had nine stories about pioneers who were on a quest It took me longer than usual to read this volume I was amazed at how some frontier families lived in caves or sod houses Themes of overcoming adversity to survive, find a missing loved one, having a simple Christmas, even serving as missionaries, were evident in the stories Those who are inspired by tales of pioneer spirit may enjoy this book.

    25. This is a book with 9 short Christmas stories all by different authors that take place in different times across the country I truly enjoyed each and everyone of them Normally, when I read a book of short stories there are a couple that I just don t care for, but this book was different Each and every story was very good.

    26. A Pioneer Christmas is a beautiful collection of historical Christmas stories I loved them all but Buckskin Bride by Vickie McDonough was my favorite of the nine Most of these authors are new to me and will be looking for full length stories by them in the future.I recommend this book to get you into the holiday spirit 4 stars.

    27. Fun for Christmas leisure reading I left a few stories unread because the season passed before I could finish them, but I d definitely check it out again next year to read those Not the best things ever written or life changing in any way but it was perfect for what I wanted some light hearted, seasonal, romantic reading with an historical setting and no bodice ripping.

    28. Most of the stories were good, only two that I had to force myself to keep reading I was disappointed in the fact that I wanted the stories to be about Christmas and most of them had very little to do with Christmas Except waiting for the father husband boyfriend to be home in time for Christmas But, there were some good stories
