    1. I really, really enjoyed this book about the mythical Legendary Infamous State of Jefferson, also known as Southern Oregon and Northern Northern California Admittedly, I might not have found it as interesting and informative if I weren t a new Jefferson citizen myself and if I weren t already aware of the special culture of this region It seems that Laufer s target audience was Jeffersonians, and that s my primary critique of the book He doesn t really paint a picture of the Jefferson state of m [...]

    2. An eminently useful book The author interviews all sides in the debate over the identity and possible secession of the State of Jefferson region of northern California and southern Oregon It would have been easy for him to be dismissive of the ignorant, shrill Tea Partiers behind the current movement, but he expresses their predicament and perspective with sympathy and in detail though ultimately coming out clearly on the side of the environmentalists and Karuk tribespeople instead Probably the [...]

    3. Who doesn t like a secession movement They are always intriguing Clearly the northwest has its share most prominently Cascadia but also Ecotopia and of course the state of Jefferson This book take a tour through the state of Jefferson talking to the people, driving the roads and exploring the origins Clearly crazy stuff didn t just originate with the Internet Not really a history or a journalistic exercise or an academic treatise this book is of an exploration than anything else and kind of jus [...]

    5. As a native Jeffersonian Oregonian, I found this to be an informative read and unfortunately, not altogether encouraging for those of us with a less informative, positive view of the myth.
