    1. I seem to be on a bit of a historical WWII Britain kick, so this book fit in perfectly Although I adore K M Peyton, I have to admit that I didn t love this book as I have her many pony books Set at the onslaught of WWII when Josie, an aspiring art student is sent up from London to live with her Aunt and Uncle in the countryside There the aimless and rather feckless Josie falls in love with the one legged younger son of the Manor, Jumbo Or so she thinks until she meets his dashing older brother C [...]

    2. This book sparked my interest at the library as a slightly romantic historic fiction bookIt met most of my requirements, quite short yet engaging, but I felt that there was something missing the ending I really got into this at the start with the descriptions of the people around Josie and the setting but at the end, the story didn t really conclude 17 year old Jumbo, a happy go lucky, optimistic young man who doesn t let his disability interrupt his life this is the perfect description of the l [...]

    3. I wish the characters of the two brothers had been fleshed out a little I think that might make the ending feel resolved and help us see and understand their motivations It felt to me like the author was hinting at things but never came through with them Otherwise, it was a good book, and very compelling.

    4. Blue Skies and Gunfire is a sweet book that was enjoyable to read if a little slow moving Josie is a budding artist sent away to her Aunt in the countryside to escape the war, and there she falls in love twice Josie meets two brothers, Jumbo, a kind, warm, cheerful soul who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident, and Chris, a fighter pilot and a ladies man Josie at first thinks that Jumbo is the one, but when she meets his brother, her heart is torn and she must choose The story is set during World [...]

    5. Of all her many books, this is Peyton s first to be set during WWII and brings back memories of The Edge of the Cloud It is also reminiscent of an old favorite of mine, The Distant Summer by Sarah Patterson Here, a young and immature heroine is torn by her love for two brothers yes, you ve heard that before If there were a prize for best depiction of incoherent yearning, Peyton would have won many times over However, she they are equally skilled at describing the contrast between a picnic on a b [...]

    6. Oh my goodness I just finished this book and all I can say is wow When I began this book I didn t like it at all Honestly, I thought it was too slow moving, pathetic, and painfully boring About half way through it was tolerable, and I could read it at least a little bit for pleasure it was for my history class Once I started getting into it though I was reading nonstop It takes so many twists and turns I didn t know what to expect, and it kept me up late reading to find out what happened By the [...]

    7. 3.5stars Bittersweet Been a while since I read a new book by this author since not many see US editions these days This was a British ed that turned up in our library system.K.M Peyton certainly retains her their ability to write male characters with realism and feeling Many of the same themes are explored here as in her Flambards books young love, flying, country life, changing roles for women only here the setting is early WWII instead of WWI May have to break down and buy books from UK.

    8. I thoroughly enjoyed this story of young passion in a time of war, how the urgency of those adolescent feelings play out in a time of extremes.
