    1. This book introduces us to Special Agent Katherine Dance of California Bureau of Investigation She is an expert on interrogation and kinesics the study of the way in which certain body movements and gestures serve as a form of non verbal communication. The book starts with an interrogation scene where Dance is interrogating Daniel Pell cult leader, master manipulator and cold blooded murderer Pell is serving a life sentence for murdering an entire family Only a little girl asleep in her bed and h [...]

    2. This was my first book by Jeffery Deaver and I enjoyed it very much I really liked his main character, Kathryn Dance She is strong and smart and able to out think all the baddies including the ones who were supposed to be on her own side Most crime novels finish straight after the death or capture of the main criminal This one went on for a couple very interesting chapters as ends were tied up and twist followed twist to the story A great incentive to read of his books.

    3. I was really intrigued by the character of Kathryn Dance in Cold Moon Having a character that uses kinesics in order to get witnesses and suspects to open up and or confess. In The Sleeping Doll we get information on the character of Kathryn Dance She works at the California Bureau of Investigation think of a state office set up like the FBI and is about to interrogate a man who murdered a family decades earlier Daniel Pell Pell is seen as similar to Charles Manson due to having his own family t [...]

    4. I am not all that familiar with Deaver s work, but one thing I liked most about this book is the way that is flowed There was none of that long drawn out unnecessary hoopla I love that Deaver is very good at stringing his readers along to feel as though a mystery has finally been solved But when the reader gets comfortable with that, they discover that one mystery runs straight into another keeping the reader constantly guessing and constantly turning the pages I also love that as well When I re [...]

    5. Jeffery Deaver is a great crime novelist and the heroin in this series, Kathryn Dance, is an interesting character I think the stand out for me in this story was the villain and the mystery behind who was the true villain.

    6. An absolute let down from the stables of Jeffery Deaver In the Sleeping Doll, Mr Deaver starts off his series with Kathryn Dance, an expert in kinesics based investigation Unfortunately, Mr Deaver s depth of knowledge in kinesics falls totally short when compared to his expertise in forensics with the Lincoln Rhyme series.Having said so, Kathryn Dance is a character who turns to be to be nothing than an endearing individual, a CBI agent, a widow and a mother of two She is nowhere close to a men [...]

    7. The Sleeping Doll was my first Jeffery Deaver read, and I was not disappointed I m on a mission now to read all of Deaver s work This book has so many twists and turns, several, OH MY GOSH moments I really enjoyed being surprised and shocked by many events which took place, but I also appreciated the fact with all of the twists and turns, they all made sense, fit together, and were well done Since this was my first Jeffery Deaver, I didn t really know what to expect Two of my best friends, Janie [...]

    8. This wasn t a bad book, just overly long It has sufficient, credible twists and turns, but ultimately, it began suffering from the very first scene when the reader infers that the prisoner Pell might, at some point, go after Dance s kids Authors take note keep the families of the investigators out of it it s an unnecessary re cheap ploy successfuly NOT used by many, many fine thriller writers It rarely adds anything, and in this case, Deaver doesn t seem to want the plot to build its own momentu [...]

    11. Having cast aside his earlier works he should not have republished them as they re not nearly as good as his later novels , Deaver continues to deliver following his Lincoln Rhyme series.I would be very curious to know what happened to Deaver for him to deliver such a contrast between his earlier novels and his later ones What turned him into such a great writer during the in between period How did he develop such excellent characterization, ingenious plots after writing a number of so so books [...]

    12. The Sleeping Doll by Jeffrey Deaver starts off with Kathryn Dance, a forensic investigator being called to interview a serial killer, Daniel Raymond Pell A forensic investigator studies the body language, verbal content and verbal tone to detect if the subject is lying or trying to deflect Prosecution is trying to get a conviction of Daniel Pell who is being held on four counts of murder. The accused manages to escape soon after the interview It is obvious that he had to have help Daniel Pell has [...]

    13. Very readable though not his best by a long shot However, like his other books, it s worth reading just for the ending Twists and twists.

    14. When Special Agent Kathryn Dance a brilliant interrogator and kinesics expert with the California Bureau of Investigation is sent to question the convicted killer Daniel Son of Manson Pell as a suspect in a newly unearthed crime, she feels both trepidation and electrifying intrigue Pell is serving a life sentence for the brutal murders of the wealthy Croyton family in Carmel years earlier a crime mirroring those perpetrated by Charles Manson in the 1960s But Pell and his cult members were sloppy [...]

    15. Published 26 07 2007Author Jeffery DeaverRecoomended for fans of thrillers, crime fictionI thought that this was a really really great book, it is the first book that I have read by Jeffrey Deaver and it most certainly will not be the last Kathryn Dance was a really great character, she was interesting and wasn t like other Special Agents I have read in books, the way her mind works and the way she works things out draws you into the book It has a fast tempo that is kept up throughout the book, [...]

    16. This isn t the best ever crime thriller The writing is good, not great the story is interesting but not quite nail biting and the characters are borderline clich Still, something pulls it back from being average I can honestly say that by the end I genuinely cared for the characters and the plot twists managed to surprise me right to the last page well, nearly Worth reading but don t go out of your way to find it perhaps.

    17. I confess to liking the way Jeffery Deaver weaves a tale From his Lincoln Rhyme series to this start of a new series, he keeps pages turning and the reader wanting .I listened to the book on CD on a recent road trip The story opens with a strong hook California Bureau of Investigation agent Kathryn Dance is an expert in reading body language, those tiny ticks and tells that reveal what is really going on She s asked to interview a serial killer, Daniel Pell, about another murder in which he is i [...]

    18. Chosen from my recommendations list, this book had the elements of a interesting story but dragged on and on At least 3 times did I expect and want the book to end and it continued to add I don t want to say twists but additional parts that I really couldn t get excited about If you enjoy reads that tries to tie up every loose end possible you would like this book Oh wait No you wouldn t because it adds an additional 4th bit at the very end that leaves things open This book was a bit too much of [...]

    19. First, the title is stupid It doesn t really have much to do with the story It represents a little twist in the middle but that s about it The book was way too long, clocking in at almost 450 pages so please don t pick this up as a book club suggestion, it was killing me But, if you are on vacation or want to kill time, it was entertaining, a little twisty and I learned a few things like what kinestics is It definitely made me paranoid about my body language and how to spot when people lie.

    20. The Sleeping Doll is the first in the Kathryn Dance series by Jeffrey Deaver This book is my type of book great plot with an excellently written character There were twists and turns which kept me captivated in the story I have already picked up 2 in the series 4 stars

    21. I am a big fan of Jeffrey Deaver and now a big fan of Dance I love the character and her science This book pulled me in from the start and in typical Deaver fashion didn t slow down.

    22. Jeffery Deaver needs to write faster My brother and I have read most of his books and put him at the top of our list for mystery writers He seldom lets us down.Although we really like his Lincoln Rhyme stories, I also like his Kathryn Dance novels In the Sleeping Doll Kathryn Dance is sent to interview a convicted killer, Daniel Pell, whom the media has portrayed as modeling Charles Mason What ensues a daring escape and a landscape littered with dead bodies Kathryn is determined to understand Da [...]

    23. I have only read one Deaver book before this, so was not entirely sure what to expect A clever and twisting plot, a well developed character for the lead investigator and an equally unpleasant one for the villain Two or three big twists at the, but overall this book was 100 pages too long, a bit of a marathon at 530 pages

    24. The first book in a new series from author Jeffery Deaver featuring Kathryn Dancer as it s protagonist, The Sleeping Doll , is another solid Deaver suspense thriller Dancer, a widow works for the California Bureau of Investigations as a kinesics investigator expert Kinesics is an interrogation technique that reads body language and gestures to gauge a suspect s truthfulness Reading about kinesics and how it works is pretty fascinating stuff Dancer is the top kinesics expert in the state She was [...]

    25. Oh my god, I am finally finished This book felt like it took forever and to finish, it was just so long and detailed and got a bit boring BUT THEN, Jefferey Deaver ends with about 4 different twists in the last 100 pages I m so glad I read this all the way through although it did take some grafting I m looking forward to reading in the Kathryn Dance series but I just hope Jefferey stops dragging his stories out because when he doesn t he s an EXCEPTIONAL writer.

    26. Book Audio This was a mixed bag for me some I liked a little, others so and some very little I m just getting started reading Deaver and having liked the movie, The Bone Collector, based on his book Lincoln Rhyme series Since that series is larger my personal backlog of books vs audio and the Kathryn Dance character series, not only has 4 books in series so far available to me in audio form, was a different and interesting sounding take on crime investigations, so I m started with it While Danc [...]
